ILOILO City – The 122 police officers of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) subjected to a “surprise” drug test were all negative for prohibited substances.
Urine samples submitted by the police officers were analyzed at the Police Regional Office 6’s Crime Laboratory, said Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, city police spokesperson.
The police officers were from ICPO’s City Drug Enforcement Unit, Intelligence Section and the Iloilo City Public Safety Company. They were summoned to the ICPO on July 27 supposedly for a conference but there, they were tested.
“We want to show the public that our police officers are drug-free,” said Sangrines.
More unannounced drug tests will be conducted, she added.
Police officers failing the drug test or found trafficking illegal drugs face sanctions.
“We will recommend them for rehabilitation. We will also study the filing of administrative complaints,” said Sangrines.
ICPO director Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso told his men to stay away from illegal drugs.
“Drug tests are part of ICPO’s internal cleansing. In the campaign against illegal drugs, we must have moral ascendancy,” said Sangrines./PN
