BACOLOD City – About 150 environmentalists from across the country will be in Talisay City, Negros Occidental for the 2017 National RAC (Research Advisory Committee) Partners Meeting today until Friday.

The national meeting – hosted by the Foundation for Philippine Environment (FPE) – will be held at Nature’s Village Resort with the theme “Celebrating Connectedness through Conservation.”

FPE, a pro-environmental conservation and protection group, will review the initiatives that it and its partners have implemented for the last 25 years.

They will also “map out and calibrate” the FPE national environmental agenda, which will be based on national biodiversity issues.

FPE’s local partner, Negros Economic Development Foundation, is helping to organize the national event.

Father Edwin Gariguez, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines and former vice chairman and Board of Trustees member of the FPE, will give a keynote address during the opening program today at 1:30 p.m.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources director for biodiversity management bureau, Dr. Mundita Lim, on the other hand, will present the condition of the Philippine biodiversity tomorrow.

Lim will also present the national biodiversity strategic action plan (NBSAP)

Lim’s presentation will be followed by another presentation, entitled “The Climate Crisis,” by Dr. Lourdes Simpol, FPE chief executive officer.

Oliver Agoncillo, FPE executive director, will have a discussion on the civil society’s contribution to the NBSAP.

There will also be talks on climate change adaptation and mitigation, food security and safety, and water security and sustainability.

For his part, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will host a gala night for the FPE members and partners tomorrow./PN
