16 policemen honored for Balume arrest

ILOILO City – Sixteen police officers who captured one of Iloilo’s most wanted men, Arturo “Master Pedik” Balume Sr. of Barangay Bato, Sara, Iloilo, were honored in Camp Delgado, headquarters of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director, awarded merit medals to Iloilo police director Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba and the latter’s four men – Police Officer 2 Melvin Mocoro, Police Officer 2 Albert Tayaba, Police Officer 2 Rolly Siman, and Police Officer 1 Ryan Dennis Matildo.

Balume, charged with murder in connection with an election eve ambush in Balasan, Iloilo in 2016, and four companions were caught in Barangay Poblacion, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on Oct. 12, 2017.

For this feat, Binag also awarded merit medals to the following policemen on Nov. 20:

* four personnel from the Regional Intelligence Division – Senior Inspector Jigger Gimeno, Police Officer 3 Edmund Espidion, Police Officer 3 Nick Acaya, Police Officer 2 Donald Tapang, and Police Officer 1  Archie Quimba

* six personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office – Senior Inspector Leomel Gonzaga, Police Officer 3 Greeky Cayao, Police Officer 2 John Earl Bravo, Police Officer 2 Joe Dennis Santes, Police Officer 2 Ryan Togonon, and Police Officer 2 Mac Gregor Canazo

Arrested with the 62-year-old Balume were his wife Honey Grace, son Arturo Jr., daughter-in-law Pamela, 23, and Pamela’s brothers Ryan Cainglet, 29.

Balume was a suspected leader of a criminal gang operating in Iloilo province, Iloilo City, Capiz, and Negros Occidental.

The group was allegedly into gun-for-hire activities and drug trafficking.

Balume denied having anything to do with the Balasan ambush that killed Ronaldo Estandarte and Robert Magarso on May 8 last year./PN
