MANILA – With the eight quarterfinals slots in the PBA Governors’ Cup now filled up, teams are now battling for the four “twice to beat” incentives in the playoffs.

Among them, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings is only the team sure of the incentive with its 8-2 win-loss record. But a loss in its last assignment against TNT KaTropa can push it down to as low as third place.

Meralco Bolts (7-2) can move up to as high as first place with a sweep of its two games against GlobalPort Batang Pier and San Miguel Beermen, but can also go down to a twice to win disadvantage (No. 5 to No. 8) with a split on two losses.

The elimination round of the Governors’ Cup will close on Sunday. The top four teams in the quarterfinals will have a twice to beat advantage over the other four.

KaTropa (7-3) can secure a twice-to-beat incentive and take the No. 1 seed if it defeats Kings, while a defeat can send it to as low as seventh seed in the quarterfinals.

As for NLEX Road Warriors (7-3), it needs to win against Star Hotshots in its final assignment to secure a twice-to-beat incentive. A loss can relegate it to the twice-to-win scenario.

For fifth placer Beermen (6-3), a sweep of its two games against Phoenix Fuel Masters and Bolts can push the team to as high as first place, while a split or loss of two can send it to at least the fifth place.

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (5-4), on the other hand, can barge into the top four with a sweep of its two games against Alaska Aces and Blackwater Elite, and hope that KaTropa and Beermen fumble in their last assignments. A loss of one or two games can send Painters to as low as the eighth.

Hotshots (5-4) can move to as high as fourth with a win over Kia Picanto and Road Warriors, while a defeat to one or two of the games will send it to as low as seventh place.

Elite (5-5) may not run for a twice-to-beat advantage but a win over Painters in its final assignment may push the team up to either sixth or seventh place, while a loss will relegate it to eighth./PN
