KALIBO, Aklan – Drumbeaters and revelers will step up the Ati-Atihan vibe today during the “SangKalibong Tamboe” (A Thousand Drums).

Thirty-five groups and 16 floats from schools, local governments and sponsors will parade on streets leading to the downtown area.

Police will temporarily shut down the streets covered by the parade route. Traffic rerouting will be in place before 12 noon.

Participants will assemble along Mabini and Desposorio Maagma Sr. streets around 1 p.m., said Albert Menez, chairman of the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc.

Drumbeating groups joining the parade include Tribu Ninolitos, 3J’s Marino, Tribu Timawa, Lagalag 27 Original, Malogonians, Apo ni Inday, Malipayong Ati, Remember the Family, Tikbalang Tribe, Road Side, Bae-ot Bae-ot, Vikings, Kinantuing, Sinikway nga Ati, Lezo Tribe, Pangawasan Tribe, Cinimoron Ochando;

Bantod Smile, Gala Drumbeat, Piktaw Piktaw, D’ Emagine, Tribu Alibangbang, Tribu Bukid Tigayon, Aeang Aeang, Black Beauty Boys, Pirates 1962, Tribu Kabog, Merisi, Eleven ’05, Maninikop, Etcetera, Good Friends, Skylarks, Pagmukeat, and Vigilants.

Joining the float parade are AirAsia, Petron, San Miguel Brewery, Inc., Coca-Cola, United Robina Corp., Saint Gabriel College, Aklan State University, Aklan Polytechnic College, Aklan Catholic College, Globe, Regional Science High School, Aklan provincial government, Holy Child Kindergarten School, Kalibo municipal government, STI College Kalibo, and Saint Gabriel English School.

 

Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan 2017 May Adel Ahmed Salman and her court — first runner-up Theadora Valentina Laorenza, second runner-up Jazzine May Andres, third runner-up Gillian Christine Bartolome, and fourth runner-up Khadine Kaye Hontiveros — will take part in the event, too.
