KALIBO, Aklan – Over P7.9 million worth of projects from the World Bank and the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) will benefit the agriculture and fishery enterprises in Aklan.

Under PRDP’s Investments for Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Development, these subprojects aim to increase the marketability of agriculture and fishery products through information access and support services.

These also seek the protection of the enterprise’s natural resource through alternative livelihood and facilities.

A PRDP’s approved P2.4-million subproject with a funding counterpart of P480,000 from the local government of Batan will help 83 members from Bay-ang Fisherfolks Cooperative.

Man-up Multipurpose Cooperative in Altavas will get a P5.5 million for the rehabilitation of their coconut mill to produce coconut-based crude oil and copra cakes, with a funding counterpart of P1.1 million.

Gov. Florencio Miraflores is also planning to develop the oyster and mussel industry in some barangays in New Washington and Batan by introducing a new farming method. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
