A SWIMMER from Aklan province became the first triple-gold medal winner in the Visayas leg of the Batang Pinoy late Sunday at the Lorenzo G. Teves Aqua Center in Dumaguete City.

Michael Gabriel Lozada claimed his third gold in 200m backstroke where he submitted a personal best of 2:48.34. He earlier won golds in 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke.

Lozada of Infant Jesus Academy could have added two more gold medals but he was disqualified in 400m individual medley and finished only fifth in 100m butterfly.

Meanwhile Team Iloilo City raised its gold medal haul to three after the group of Roj Miguel Jaro, Joseph Marvin Tacapan and Scyros Malcolm Gardoce topped the pre-teenager regu boys event of pencak silat.

John Paul Papito captured a gold medal for Bacolod City in 400m hurdles.

Rhome Ojeno won silver for Bacolod City in 100m run while fellow Bacolodnons Bea Delotavo and Antonnete Aguilon captured bronzes in 400m hurdles and 100m dash, respectively.

In girls’ volleyball, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts cruised to its second straight victory 25-7, 25-13 against Bayawan at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.

As of press time, Aklan tied Cebu on top of the medal tally with seven golds apiece.

Iloilo City was on sixth place with three gold medals and three silver medals. Bacolod also had three gold medals so far./PN
