ARJAY TINGSON of Antique clinched the championship in the Dinagyang Billiards Tournament 2018.

Tingson, a native of the capital town of San Jose, captured the title after escaping Rommel Hortiloza of Iloilo City 7-4 in the race-to-seven finals.

Steve Enojo of Iloilo City, meanwhile, defeated Ryan Jorge Penar of Cabatuan, Iloilo in the battle for third place.

Tingson took home the top prize of P20,000 cash plus trophy while Hortiloza settled for P10,000 and a trophy. Enojo and Penar had P5,000 and P3,000, respectively, and a trophy each.

Sixty-four players from Western Visayas and Manila joined the competition that culminated with an awarding ceremony on Wednesday evening.

“We can consider billiards as one of the popular sports not only in Iloilo City but in the country as well,” which was why the city government included the sport in the Dinagyang Festival events, said Moises Salomon of the Iloilo City Sports Development Division.

On their way to the championship round, Tingson eliminated Penar while Hortiloza escaped Enojo in the race-to-seven semifinals./PN
