ILOILO City – A resident of Barangay Talisay, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo was shot by his stepfather, a police report showed.
Romie Erepol, 40, died of a gunshot wound on the stomach.
Erepol was taken to the Don Jose Sustiguer Monfort Memorial Medical Center Extension Hospital in Barotac Nuevo but the attending physician, Dr. Bryan Evangelista, pronounced him “dead on arrival.”
Police identified the suspect as Nelson Delmo, 50, of the same village.
The shooting happened at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in their barangay, the police report stated.
Delmo fled after the incident but turned himself in to the Barotac Nuevo police station on Friday.
His wife Helen told the police Delmo was getting some rest in their house when a drunken Erepol arrived, wielding a sharp object, investigator Police Officer 2 Rechie Bretaña said.
Helen alleged that Erepol challenged his stepfather to a fight, resulting in an argument that prompted the latter to get a gun, said Bretaña.
Erepol dared Delmo to fire the gun, which the latter did, hitting the former on the stomach, Helen told the investigator.
Police said a remorseful Delmo surrendered to their barangay captain, Alfred Hechanova III, who accompanied him to their station. (With a report from Panay Balita/PN)
