ILOILO City – A capsized fishing boat with a broken outrigger was found in Barangay Talisayan, Anini-y, Antique yesterday.
It was owned by a fisherman from Barangay Baybay Norte, Miag-ao, Iloilo who went missing exactly a week ago, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
But the 52-year-old Leonardo Dayondoy remains missing as of press time.
Coast Guard-Iloilo head Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica told Panay News they continue searching for Dayondoy.
Another fisherman, Rolando Gencono of Barangay Lisub, Anini-y, found the capsized boat, while Dayondoy’s brother Antonio “positively identified” it as that of the missing fisherman, said Palabrica.
The boat was colored yellow, blue and white, with a 10-horsepower engine.
Dayondoy went fishing around 2 a.m. on Feb. 11 at the waters near their village. He has not returned.
Coastguards searched that day, but huge waves and strong winds made the operation difficult.
They continued the search around 2 p.m. the following day. Using four motorboats, they scoured the waters of Barangay Baybay Norte, Miag-ao, but they failed to find Dayondoy, said Palabrica.
Coast Guard-Iloilo will issue a notice to mariners of all watercrafts transiting the vicinity of Barangay Talisayan, Anini-y, Antique and nearby coastal areas for possible sightings of Dayondoy./PN
