BACOLOD City – Residents of Purok Gaisano, Barangay Alijis opposed the plan to operate a material sorting facility, or a “transfer facility,” in the village.

The facility is a project of the IPM-Construction Developmnet Corp. (IPM-CDC).

The residents wrote Councilor Em Ang, Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on health and sanitation chairwoman, a letter explaining their opposition.

Part of the letter reads, “[we] oppose IPM-CDC’s plan … for the reason that our Purok will suffer from the foul smell and contamination…”

Ang referred the concern to Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairwoman of SP committee on environment and ecology.

A public hearing was conducted by Rojas on July 11 in response to a letter seeking the city council’s intervention on IPM-CDC’s operation even without securing the endorsement of no objection from the residents.

IPM-CDC explained that collected garbage will be temporarily deposited in the facility before a truck takes them to a dumpsite in Barangay Felisa.

IPM-CDC is the city’s contractor in garbage disposal and dumpsite operation./PN
