ILOILO City – Former Ateneo Lady Eagles stars and Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) co-founders Bea Tan and Charo Soriano are set to grace the 14th Iloilo Paraw Regatta National Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament and compete for the “Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog Cup” crown on Feb. 17 to 19 at the Joe III Garden Beach Front in Villa Arevalo.

However, the two beach volley vixens are slated to compete in separate tandems, Soriano teaming up with former Adamson Queen Falcon Amanda Villanueva and Tan enlisting fellow Ateneo Fab Five member Angeline “Dzi” Gervacio to form a formidable duo.

Ilongga spikers will also get to strut their stuff on the sand with Central Philippine University’s Glaudine Troncoso and Mika Yu, as well as Dhamy Demontaño and Jackie Estoquiao, joining the fray.

The number of participants in this year’s competition has doubled, from five in 2016 to 10 in the current iteration of the tourney. The other competing tandems are from University of St. La Salle – Bacolod (Shaira Lim and Julyna Villanueva; Tonnievyle Factor and Graciela Mellizo), Southwestern University – Cebu (Floremel Rodriguez and Teerang Ramas), University of San Jose – Recoletos Cebu (Linlyn Torado and Jessa Marie Jorquia), Foundation University – Dumaguete (Charmaigne Jayme and Jasslyn Genconcillo), and University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos Bacolod (Alexa Poledario and Erjane Magdato).

Last year, Southwestern University of Cebu emerged as the Open Category champion with UNO-R finishing1st runner-up. Team Iloilo’s Demontaño and Fiola Ceballos, now a Generika Lifesavers spiker in the Philippine SuperLiga, came in at 2nd runner-up./PN
