Capiz boy, 7, ‘drowns’ in pool on Easter Sunday

ROXAS City – A seven-year-old boy reportedly drowned in the swimming pool of an inland resort in Barangay Mianay, Sigma, Capiz on Easter Sunday.

The unnamed boy was a resident of Barangay Lacaron, Dao, Capiz.

According to the Sigma municipal police station, around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday the resort caretaker chided the boy and a sibling for swimming in the more or less five-foot deep pool. They were told to transfer to the much shallower kiddie pool.

A few minutes later, police said, the caretaker saw the boy already unconscious and floating in the swimming pool then shouted for help.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on the boy but with no positive effect.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Sigma Response Team (SRT) also responded to the scene.

Initial assessment showed the boy no longer breathing.

He was right away transported to the Sen. Gerardo Roxas Memorial Hospital where he was declared “dead on arrival”.

Police investigation was continuing. Nothing was being ruled out yet, including a possible foul play./PN
