ROXAS City – Ports in Capiz province serve as drop-off points of illegal drugs shipped from Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) assistant regional director Levi Ortiz.

The drugs are then distributed across provinces in Panay Island, Ortiz said.

The PDEA official did not specify which port.

This city has one major port in Barangay Culasi. Small ports in barangays Libas and Banica are purposely for fishing and small boats ferrying passengers from Roxas to Masbate and Sibuyan, Romblon, and vice versa.

The other major port in Capiz is in Barangay Basiao, Ivisan town.

“Capiz seaports are too lenient,” Ortiz said. “Certain individuals, whom I cannot identify yet, helped facilitate for these illegal drugs to be dropped off in Roxas City and Capiz.”

“The drugs dumped in Capiz seaports are the main source of illegal drugs distributed in Region 6,” he added.

The PDEA, which has recently established a satellite office in Capiz, is now closely monitoring all seaports in the province.

But Ortiz clarified that no one from Capiz is linked to big-time drug traffickers in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon./PN
