BACOLOD City – The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) is planning to file a collection case against the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) at the regional trial court for making consumers pay for unused power supply.
NGCP is expected to deliver 119 megawatts (MW) to Ceneco based on their contract.

However, NGCP only supplied 109 MW and yet Ceneco will be paying for the undelivered 10 MW.

“How can we explain this to our consumer-members? They will pay for the 10 MW that they did not use,” Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said.

NGCP had required electric cooperatives in the Negros Island Region to do a manual load dropping (MLD) or cutting off power to provide for areas with power shortage.
This was after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake caused widespread power shortages in Bohol, Cebu, Leyte, and Negros.
Negros electric cooperatives were asked to reduce 40 megawatts (MW) to cater Bohol and Leyte’s power shortage.
Lagarde said they are searching where the undelivered power supply went.
Electric power cooperatives in Western Visayas are also planning to file a case the same case, Lagarde said.
A meeting with the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy and electric cooperatives will be held to address this collection issue./PN
