BACOLOD City – Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) will no longer file a case against the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) if its meeting with power-regulating agencies resolves its collection issue.

Electric cooperatives in Negros Island Region and Western Visayas agreed to consult the Department of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission and the National Electrification Administration regarding the payment scheme for the NGCP’s undelivered power.

“It was a unanimous decision. This issue has become a regional concern of electric cooperatives. I hope we settle this amicably with the agencies,” said Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr.

The meeting aims to settle the problems that rose after the NGCP required manual load dropping to address power shortages in Bohol, Cebu, Leyte, and Negros after a magnitude 6.5 earthquake.
The date has yet to be finalized.

Earlier Ceneco said it will file a case against the NGCP for supplying only 109 megawatts (MW) instead of 119 MW based on their contract, and for making Ceneco pay for the undelivered 10 MW.
“We are just doing our best to protect the interests of our member-consumers,” Lagarde said./PN
