CENTERPHIL Montessori Silver Knights started its campaign in the 1st Governor’s Cup Regional Invitational Championships on a bright note after routing Iloilo National High School 114-65 at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

Lester Valn Paraico led CenterPhil with 20 points, including four triples, on Saturday. Jedrick Tigres added 17 markers while Rodney Paparon and Patrick John Gain had 14 points each.

Silver Knights turned to its torrid outside shooting early in the match to build a 20-point advantage. The lead grew to as high as 50 points in the second half on baskets by Paraico, Tigres and Wilmar Silverio.

Iloilo North Warriors also had a strong start in the three-day event, trouncing Mandurriao National High School 111-66. Santa Clarita International High School Primes’ Ralph Bajon led Warriors with 28 points.

In other matches, Hercor College scored an 86-80 victory over University of San Agustin while Iloilo South won via default as University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos failed to make it to the venue due to tropical storm “Urduja.”

In women’s volleyball, Province of Iloilo, Supang Guimaras and Central Philippine University Golden Lions scored opening-day victories in games held at the CPU gymnasium.

Province of Iloilo defeated Iloilo City National High School while Supang Guimaras swept Hua Siong College of Iloilo. Golden Lions outdueled Ateneo de Iloilo./PN
