ILOILO City – CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights stayed unbeaten in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayor’s Cup-1st Conference) after beating Sun Yat Sen High School, 96-71, at the gym in Barangay Katilingban, Molo district.

Mark Cleopas top-scored with 26 points for Silver Knights, which maintained its grip at the No. 1 spot in the high school category with a 6-0 win-loss slate. Sun Yat Sen dropped to fourth place with a 4-2 mark.

Holding to a slim 21-17 lead at the end of first frame on Wednesday, Silver Knights started to pull away in the second quarter, building a 46-33 lead at the half before widening it to 72-55 after the first 30 minutes.

Meanwhile St. Roberts International Academy (5-2) sealed its semifinals berth after scoring an 80-76 victory over Jalandoni Memorial National High School (1-6). Guenmiles Pindon contributed 16 markers for St. Roberts.

Iloilo National High School (INHS, 3-3), on the other hand, kept its semifinals hopes alive following a 76-73 escape over Mandurriao National High School (2-5) behind 30 points from Tyrone Tormon.

But the INHS is facing a must-win situation against Sun Yat Sen late Thursday night for a chance to take the fourth and last seat in the semifinals to be played today.

For Silver Knight to lock in on the top-seed in the playoffs, it has to beat Santa Clarita International School, which is on a five-game winning run since losing its opening-day match, also yesterday.

The 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament is organized by the Iloilo City government./PN
