MANILA – Ceres Negros will be enjoying home court edge when it faces Global Cebu in the knockout championship match of the 2017 Philippine Football League tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Game time is at 6 p.m.
Ceres Negros will be aiming for its first title in two years while Global Cebu hopes for its third straight football title after winning two in United Football League last year.
Both Ceres Negros and Global Cebu have played tight matches in the league this year, scoring only an average of 1.25 goals in their encounters so far with most goals scored late in the match.
Ceres Negros drew first blood in Panaad on June 3 on a game-winner by Jeffrey Christaens.
Global Cebu responded with a 1-0 win a month after on a goal by Matthew Hartmann at Abellana Stadium.
Ceres Negros scored another win in September in Panaad with Stephan Schrock draining the marginal hit, while Global Cebu got a 2-0 win last month in Cebu with Ceres Negros resting its stars.
“Just like in our four elimination round matches, we expect the finals to be a tight one,” said Ceres Negros team manager Dennis Dinsay. “We just hope that our home crown will be able to inspire our players to perform well.”
Ceres Negros is to be led by Bienvenido Marañon, Manuel Herrera, Fernando Rodriguez, Stephan Schrock, Kevin Ingreso, Manuel Ott, Luke Woodland, Omid Nazari, Martin Steuble, Jeffrey Christiaens, and goal keeper Roland Muller.
Global Cebu, meanwhile, is to be bannered by Rufino Sanchez, Misagh Bahadoran, Darryl Roberts, Paul Mulders, Dennis Villanueva, Amani Aguinaldo, OJ Clarino, Paolo Salenga, Paolo Bugas, Wesley Dos Santos, and goal keeper Patrick Deyto.
Ceres Negros reached the championship round following a 3-1 aggregate victory over Kaya Makati, while Global Cebu advances with a 3-2 aggregate win over Meralco Manila./PN
