BACOLOD City – The family of the late Dr. Ricardo B. Yanson Sr., operator of the Vallacar Transit Inc., held a blessing and turnover ceremony for the two-storey four-classroom school building that they donated to Valladolid Elementary School yesterday.

The ceremony was led by Roy Yanson, one of the seven children of Ricardo. Department of Education representatives were also present.

In his message, the younger Yanson said yesterday was also the birthday of his father.

“He is 88 now if he is still living,” he said. “He may not be with us physically right now but he is with us in spirit.”

Roy also disclosed the school has an important role to his father’s life as the entrepreneur went there during grade school.

“Thank you to the teachers and faculty members who made Dad a brilliant, smart and educated man … my Dad was a man of humility despite his accomplishments. He believes to strive for the best and everything. He taught us how to attain success through hard work and life for the community,” a part of his speech said.

He also stated that his mother, Olivia, could not make it to the event but extended her support with his siblings.

The younger Yanson furthermore noted his family was grateful to be an instrument to help the youth.

Aside from the building, the Yanson family previously donated the covered court of the school.

The third generation of the Yanson family also turned over yesterday the audio-visual equipment for the school. It was led by Mel Yanson Rivero.

The Yanson family together with Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Valladolid mayor Enrique Miravalles cut the ribbon during the blessing of the school building./PN
