ILOILO City – More than a thousand were hired in January alone through job fairs conducted by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog encouraged applicants to visit PESO at the fifth floor of city hall for recruitment activities or attend job fairs to avail of employment opportunities here and abroad.

City PESO head Ma. Elena Benitez said a total of 1,230 were hired by at least 15 companies locally and eight nurses were deployed overseas.

PESO continues to conduct big job fairs especially during festivals such as Dinagyang in January and Paraw Regatta in February as well as holidays such as Labor Day in May and Independence Day in June.

Some 20 international manning agencies offering maritime careers joined the Seafarers’ Job Fair from Feb. 16 to 17 at the Atria Park District in Mandurriao district, as part of celebration of 45th Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival.

Benitez said they also invited training centers which will give advice to applicants. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
