SANTA Clarita International High School Primes and Hua Siong College of Iloilo advanced to the finals of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Iloilo leg after beating their semifinals foes at the Powerhouse Gym in Gaisano City Iloilo.

The do-or-die championship match will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the same venue.

The winner will represent Iloilo in the NBTC Region 6-A Finals on Feb. 23 to 24 in Buenavista, Guimaras against the champions in Capiz, Antique and Aklan, and two from Guimaras.

Primes leaned on the hot hands of Marvin Cuerbo, Ralph Bajon and Kingjames Gaborno to score 96-82 against CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights in the first semifinal game on Monday.

Cuerbo led the way with 25 points while Bajon and Gaborno had 23 and 21 points, respectively, for Primes. For Silver Knights, Sean Tigres top-scored with 17 points while Ian Gasacao added 14.

In the following game, Hua Siong went on a huge fourth-quarter run to stave off University of San Agustin 81-69.

Mark Nonoy finished with 26 points while Reynold Tupaz and Jesse Sullano had 18 and 11 points, respectively, for Hua Siong.

Holding on to a slim 64-61 lead midway in the fourth quarter, Hua Siong went on a finishing run behind Nonoy, Tupaz and Binoy Beliran to suddenly pull away to a 12-point advantage./PN
