ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 has started the construction of the slope protection of Esplanade 4 and 6.

The Esplanade 4 will be located at the right side along Iloilo River from Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue Bridge to Jalandoni Bridge while Esplanade 6 will be on the same side of the waterway from Jalandoni Bridge up to Forbes Bridge at the side of River Queen Hotel, City Proper.

“As you can see, there are portions along our shoreline that are scouring, so the purpose is really for the slope protection,” said DPWH-6 project engineer Mavi Gustilo.

The slope protection project of Esplanade 4 and 6 cost P215 million.

Esplanade 4 will have a length of 820 linear meters and a walkway width of four meters while Esplanade 6 is 840 linear meters and will have a four-meter walkway width.

“For now, what we will construct is slope protection. After which, the beautification by putting of bricks of Esplanade 4 and 6 will follow,” said Gustilo.

The complete construction of Esplanade 4 and 6 is expected to end March next year, said Gustilo.

The establishment of Esplanade 3 is still on going at the left side along the Iloilo River from the Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue to Jalandoni Bridge in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz.

The construction of Esplanade 5, 7, 8, 9 is already included in the 2017 General Appropriations of DPWH- 6, Gustilo revealed.

Furthermore, Gustilo said that some buildings along Iloilo River will be affected once the construction of the slope protection of Esplanade 4 and 6 will start.

The DPWH-6 already finished Esplanade 1 and 2 in Mandurriao district. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
