ILOILO City – A court dismissed the complaint filed against the city government and its Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF ASIS) relative to the demolition of informal settlers on Ortiz-Muelle Loney streets, City Proper.

Municipal Trial Court Branch 3’s Judge Alexis Zerrudo dismissed the civil case for forced entry with prayer for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction filed by Arturo Deala and Gloria Babas against the city government and TF ASIS chairman Roberto Dumanil.

The complaint stemmed from the demolition of structures straddling on the sidewalk and partly on the property purchased by the city government from Panay Railways.

As early as two years prior to the demolition, the city government sent the occupants notices to leave as the site was needed for the construction of a new Freedom Grandstand.

The displaced settlers were offered a place to transfer – at city government-run relocation sites. (Merriane Grace J. Ereñeta, Iloilo City PIO)/PN
