BACOLOD City – Two teachers from the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (Nonescost) were killed in a vehicular crash in Villa Angela, Barangay Poblacion 2, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

A motorcycle and a tricycle collided into each other along a national road at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Eight people were injured, police said.

Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Sagay City police chief, identified the casualties as locals Robert John Gella, 25, of Barangay Poblacion I and Kristine Cedenio, 29, of Barangay Poblacion II.

Gella was driving the motorcycle with Cedenio on board. Both were instructors at Nonescost’s Criminology Department.

Police investigation showed that Gella was racing with friends when he overtook a preceding tricycle but failed to return to his lane, thereby crashing against another motorcycle running the opposite direction.

Tricycle driver Reynaldo Arellano, 53 of Barangay Taba-ao, Sagay City was injured.

His seven passengers were hurt, too: Ryan Andales, 11, sister Shiantal Mae, 6, and mother Gina, 38, all residents of Barangay Old Sagay; Florence Mae Conde of Barangay Cervantes, Escalante City; Evey John Lebister Intes, 18, and Joy Ann Baquillar, 19, of Barangay San Isidro, Toboso; and Roel Ehok Minque, 23, of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante City.

Conde, Intes, Baquillar, and Minque were all Nonescost students, police said.

All the injured were taken to a hospital in this capital city./PN
