BACOLOD City – Two people died while four others were injured when a tricycle crashed against a truck loaded with fish in Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City police chief, identified the casualties as Cecelia Villaruel, 35, and Blessed Lines Santillana, 4, all of  Barangay Taloc, Bago City.

They were on board the tricycle when the accident happened at around 7 a.m. on Thursday.

The vehicles were running opposite directions – the tricycle was bound for Kabankalan while the Iligan City-bound cargo truck was headed to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental – police said.

Villaruel and Santillana sustained head and body injuries.

Injured were tricycle passengers Leni Santillana, 46, Alexander Santillana, 25, and Leopoldo Santillana, 35, and driver Dominador Villaruel, 49, all of Taloc, Bago.

The victims were on their way to the birthday party of a family patriarch in Bayawan City at the time, investigation showed.

Truck driver Carmelo Magario, 39, of Iligan City turned himself in to the police in Mabinay. Investigation into the incident continues./PN
