ILOILO schools stole the show with their energetic performances during the cheerdance competition in the Iloilo qualifying leg of the 41st National Milo Marathon at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Cubay Elementary School was the champion in the elementary division while finishing first and second runners-up were Jalandoni Memorial School and F. Java Kelly Elementary School, respectively.

In the high school division, Iloilo City National High School was the champion while Mandurriao National High School settled for a runner-up finish during the competition on Oct. 8.

University of Iloilo-Phinma was the runaway winner in the college division – it was the only collegiate participant after West Visayas State University backed out in the last minute.

Rommel Castro, head of Iloilo City government Sports Development Division, said the champion teams received a P10,000 cash prize while second and third placers had P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.

“We are glad these schools participated,” Castro said. “They have given a good sideline event to our Milo Marathon. We are hoping that more schools will participate in the future editions.”

Three Iloilo leg participants qualified to the Milo Marathon national finals on Dec. 3 in Cebu City – Romnick Dago, Jero Matheus Jaro and Alexandra Ganzon.

Dago (1:14:45) and Jaro (1:15:02) topped the male 21km race while Ganzon (1:32:35) dominated the distaff side to earn an all-expense-paid participation to the final race./PN
