BORACAY – Officials from the Environment department central office inspected “areas of environmental concern” in the island.

They checked the materials recovery facility in Barangay Manoc-manoc, the White Beach (beachfront) and the drainage facilities.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources will craft solutions to environmental woes in Boracay based on the information gathered during the inspection, said Undersecretary Marc Fragada.

The inspection started after Secretary Roy Cimatu’s meeting with Malay local government officials and stakeholders on Thursday.

Among the issues discussed during the meeting at the municipal hall in the mainland were on solid waste, land and water quality.

Cimatu skipped the inspection to meet with Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores. He ordered his undersecretaries to lead the check.

Meanwhile Fragada, Undersecretary Ernesto Adobo and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) director Ivene Reyes led the reactivation of the Community ENRO in the island.

Previously a satellite office, CENRO Boracay is now a stand-alone office, Reyes said.

An active CENRO will enable the department to strictly regulate environmental activities in the island, Adobo said.

Adobo vowed that the central office will equip CENRO Boracay with sufficient manpower and logistics to enforce environmental laws. (PNA)
