ILOILO – For giving her nephew a post at the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Iloilo, the schools superintendent here was charged administratively with nepotism.
Dr. Myrna Castillo was also slapped with a 90-day suspension pending investigation.
“After careful evaluation and review of the complaint and the evidence on record, this office finds the existence of a prima facie case against you to warrant the filing of an administrative charge,” read the copy of the formal charge dated Dec. 13, 2016 addressed to Castillo.
DepEd secretary Leonor Briones approved the filing of the charge.
Castillo appointed nephew Arman Glenn Lapor as Education Program Specialist II.
She was given five days from receipt of the formal charge to submit her answer and present her witnesses and documentary evidences.
“Your failure to answer the charge within the period provided herein and/or elect a formal investigation, should your answer be found unsatisfactory, constitutes a waiver on your part to file an answer and/or elect a formal investigation. Hence, this Office will resolve the case based on the records available,” read part of the formal charge.
Castillo was specifically charged with violation of Section 2 (dd) on nepotism, in relation to Section 58 A No. 12, of DepEd Order No. 49, s. 2006 and Section 46 No. 11 of the Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service (RRACCS).
As of this writing, neither Castillo nor Lapor could be reached for comment.
DepEd regional director Gemma Ledesma could not be contacted, too./PN
