MANILA ā€“ The Department of Justice absolved on Wednesday former Customs commissioner Nicanor Faeldon and 11 others from charges in connection with the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu in May.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) failed to prove they violated the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Justice department said in a resolution.

ā€œFurther, the evidence adduced by the PDEA in support of the charges were insufficient to establish probable case,ā€ read part of the resolution. ā€œThus, the Panel is constrained to take into consideration the defense raised by the respondents.ā€

Also cleared from the charges were Customsā€™ directors Milo Maestrecampo and Neil Estrella, Intelligence Officer Joel Pinawin, Intelligence Officer Oliver Valiente, Atty. Jeleena Magsuci, Atty. Philip Maronilla, Alexandra Y. Ventura, Randolph O. Cabansag, Dennis J. Maniego, Dennis
Cabildo, and John Edillor.

But the following were charged with importing and selling illegal drugs: Customs fixer Mark Taguba, and importers, brokers and warehouse owners Chen Ju Long (alias Richard Chen or Richard Tan), Li Guang Feng (alias Manny Li), Don Yi Shan Xi (alias Kenneth Dong), Eirene Mae Tatad, Teejay Apostol Marcellana, Chen I-Min, and Jhu Ming Jyun.

Authorities seized the drug shipment in a Hongfei Logistics, Inc. warehouse in Valenzuela City on May 23.

The shipment entered the Philippines through the Customsā€™ ā€œexpress laneā€ at the Port of Manila on May 17./PN
