BACOLOD City – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) allocated a total of P90 million for the rehabilitation of the Kabankalan City Domestic Airport.

Mayor Isidro Zayco disclosed this during the highlights of the 42nd Sinulog Festival of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

According to Zayco, the DOTr already forwarded P30 million to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) so that the bidding for the airport’s rehabilitation can start.

But the CAAP has yet to receive the program of works from the DOTr.

This prompted Zayco to follow-up the program from the DOTr. That was when he was told that the agency allotted P60 million additional budget for the rehabilitation project.

Aside from this, the provincial government and the city government also allotted P30 million and P50 million for the project, respectively.

Currently, the Kabankalan City Domestic Airport is not operational.

It badly needs repair, Zayco said.

The mayor hopes the airport to once again operate after a two-year rehabilitation period./PN
