ILOILO City – A drug pushing suspect was arrested in Barangay Bacong, Dumangas, Iloilo.

The 53-year-old Benjie Dormido, a resident of Delgado Street, Barangay Malipayon, City Proper, was taken to the municipal police station. A police “asset” bought from him a sachet of shabu for P600.

According to Chief Inspector Rene Obregon, Dumangas police chief, 10 more sachets were found in Dormido’s possession around 8:55 a.m. on Saturday.

“He was too elusive. We found it hard to arrest him. Our asset negotiated with him for over two weeks,” said Obregon.
Citing intelligence information, Obregon said Dormido used to get shabu from slain suspected drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr.
Odicata was killed by still unidentified gunmen on Aug. 28, 2016 at the jetty port of Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.

After Odicta’s killing, Dormido continued with his illegal activities, said Obregon.

Dormido faces a charge for illegal drug possession and peddling. Both acts were violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Thirty drug suspects were also killed in antidrug operations of the police the region – two in Aklan, 10 in Antique, one in Capiz, one in Guimaras, eight in Iloilo province, and eight in Iloilo City.

According to Gorero, 944 drug users also had themselves voluntarily rehabilitated through a program designed by the Department of Health./PN
