BACOLOD City – Rep. Juliet Ferrer (Negros Occidental, 4th District) and husband former congressman Jeffrey yesterday filed perjury and libel cases against former Barangay 35 village chief Manuel Huelar at the Hall of Justice in the city.
The criminal cases were filed by the Ferrers through their legal counsel Atty. Arnel Lapore.
The cases were in relation to Huelar’s tagging of top ranking officials in Negros Occidental – including Gov. Alfredo Marañon and Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, among others – as protectors of prohibited drugs.
In October, Huelar – who is currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay Handumanan – issued an affidavit alleging that the public officials know about the illegal drug trade orchestrated by Lacson’s brother Manual in his house in Santa Clara Subdivision in the city.
Jeffrey refused to disclose the details of the filed cases and told that his lawyer, Lapore, will answer questions soon.
Marañon also earlier said he will lodge cases against Huelar but has not yet filed any.
Lacson, on the other hand, said he has no plans of filing any cases against Huelar.
The public officials said Huelar’s allegations are mere politicking.
Lacson said he knows who is the “mastermind” telling Huelar what to do. He added that the identity of the “mastermind” is an “open secret” among politicians in Negros Occidental./PN
