MANILA – San Miguel and TNT will both aim to move closer to the 2017 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup title as they clash in Game 5 of the Finals tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Game time is 7 p.m. The squads are targeting a 3-2 edge in the best-of-seven series.

Katropa reduced the championship round to a best-of-three affair after tying the series 2-2 with a 102-97 victory Wednesday night behind impressive scoring from import Joshua Smith and Jayson Castro.

“It was a hard-fought ballgame. Both teams gave their best,” said Katropa head coach Nash Racela. “It’s nice that we ended up with the win, but all we did, really, was just to tie the series and cut it down to a best-of-three.”

“It will be a war in Game 5,” added the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws coach. “I expect them to not back down, so we’ll just keep quiet and find ways to win and take the series lead.”

For his part, Beermen head coach Leo Austria said they hope to bounce back from their struggles in Game 4 that saw big men June Mar Fajardo and Best Import awardee Charles Rhodes in foul trouble.

“We have to protect our bigs from getting into foul trouble. If both of them are sitting on the bench, (TNT import) Smith can dominate inside,” said Austria. “Our support group also did not produce well.”

“It’s really hard to get win No. 3. You can see that the teams are now showing their emotions and the players’ intensities are already coming out that things are starting to get heated,” he added.

Aside from Game 4, TNT won the Finals series opener, 104-102, while San Miguel took Games 2 (102-88) and 3 (109-97)./PN
