ILOILO City – The Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. – Panay Chapter has been allowed to welcome the Chinese New Year with fireworks this Feb. 15.

It has secured a permit to hold a fireworks display at SM City Iloilo tomorrow from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight.

According to City Administrator Hernando Galvez, there was no need for the city mayor to issue another executive order (EO) designating firecracker zones for the Chinese New Year.

During the recent Dinagyang Festival, Mayor Jose Espinosa III issued EO No.008-2018 permitting fireworks display at the SM City Iloilo car park and the Iloilo Business Park.

The Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. – Panay Chinese and Sun Yat Sen High School of Iloilo Inc. are spearheading this year’s Chinese New Year activities in this city.

Activities officially started yesterday and would end on the 18th.

The opening program was held at SM City North Point Activity Center yesterday.

The Sun Yat Sen High School of Iloilo, Inc. and Hua Siong College of Iloilo will hold a public school performance at Jalandoni Memorial Elementary Schoo, Uswag San Isidro Elementary School, I. Arroyo Elementary School, and A. Montes I Elementary School today.

The Iloilo Scholastic Academy will hold a cultural show at SM City Iloilo Northpoint Activity Center tomorrow.

The city government will be hosting the Chinese New Year Luncheon at Casa Real on Feb. 15.

The parade will start at 4 p.m. from the provincial capitol to the downtown area for the 6 p.m. cultural show on corner Iznart-Ledesma streets.

A food festival will be held from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight on Iznart-De Leon to Iznart-Ledesma streets.

The Hua Siong College of Iloilo Lions and Dragons Team will present a cultural show at SM City Iloilo Northpoint Activity Center on Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Chinese New Year mass at Santa Maria Parish is on Feb. 18 at 8 a.m.

The Chinese New Year Gift Giving for 3,000 indigent families will be sponsored by the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc/ – Panay Chapter at the Freedom Grandstand on Feb. 18.

The Sun Yat Sen High School of Iloilo Inc. will have a cultural show at SM City Iloilo Northpoint Activity Center on Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the Dog Fashion Meet-up is at SM City Iloilo Southpoint at 3pm. (Merianne Grace Ereñeta/ Iloilo City PIO/PN)
