MANILA – Brushing his earlier statements under the rug, retired SPO3 Arturo Lascañas admitted President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s alleged links to the infamous Davao Death Squad (DDS).

Sa unang pag-upo ni mayor Duterte bilang mayor ng Davao City, nag-umpisa na kami ng ‘salvaging’ ng mga tao,” said Lascañas, who was presented by the Free Legal Assistance Group in the Senate.

According to the former policeman, the vigilante group was paid by Duterte to kill suspects in Davao City.

Minsan 20,000; minsan 50,000 (at) minsan 100,000.”

He likewise confirmed the testimony of self-confessed former hitman Edgar Matobato at the Senate inquiry that the long-time mayor ordered the bombing of the Camamara mosque and the killing of suspected terrorist Sali Makdum.

In October last year, Lascañas initially denied his close ties with Duterte and that he was the team leader of the DDS.

He also dismissed Matobato’s testimonies as lies. “Wala pong Davao Death Squad, your honor. Media hype lang ‘yan… Hindi po totoo ‘yan. Sinungaling po si Edgar Matobato.”

Lascañas also claimed that Duterte instructed the group to kill a suspected kidnapping mastermind, including his pregnant wife, child, father-in-law, and helpers.

The President, he added, was also the mastermind of radio commentator Jun Pala’s killing.

During yesterday’s press conference, Lascañas also confessed having his brothers Cecilio and Fernando, killed for their involvement in illegal drugs out of his “blind loyalty and obedience” to Duterte.

Meanwhile, Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV said he will file a motion to investigate Lascañas’ allegations./PN
