5 other WV cagers in Junior Warriors for UAAP

MANILA – Hua Siong College of Iloilo star guard Mark Nonoy was transferring to the University of the East Junior Warriors for the upcoming UAAP juniors’ basketball later this year.

Hua Siong head coach Vincent Conlu said Nonoy, a native of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, has committed to Junior Warriors, which was being handled by Conlu’s brother Bong.

“He will be playing for the UE juniors’ team for one year,” Conlu told Panay News. “Then we will look for options since three Manila-based schools expressed interest in him.”

He will join the following Western Visayas players in Junior Warriors: fellow Negrenses Shane Dichoso of Himamaylan City, Joshua Lopez of Kabankalan City, John Almacen of La Carlota City, and Jared Tajonera of Bacolod City, and Darvin Policarpio of Ibajay, Aklan.

Conlu and Nonoy went to Manila on Tuesday after getting an invite from newly named University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo to join their team practice.

Aside from UST, Adamson University Falcons and Far Eastern University Tamaraws have previously reached out to Conlu with regard to possibly recruiting Hua Siong’s speedy guard.

“We got an invite from coach Aldin to join their practices but there will be no commitments yet,” Conlu said. “He (Nonoy) will finish high school first at UE before deciding which offer we will accept.”

Nonoy had an impressive showing in the recent Dinagyang Mayor’s Cup, including a 41-point outing in Hua Siong’s 105-93 win over Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts. He was later named part of the mythical team./PN
