ILOILO City – Four inmates at the police station in Jaro district claimed a policeman beat them up.

Acting on the allegation, Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin, Jaro police chief, ordered an investigation.

The four inmates were James Paul Bryan Cacho, Reyland Coronado, Mark June Francisco, and Solibert Sol, all illegal drug suspects. The subject of their complaint was Police Officer 2 Roy Cabayao of the police station’s warrant and subpoena section.

On Saturday night, according to the inmates, Cabayao made them hold the iron grills of the detention cell then hit their hands with the magazine of his service firearm.

Cabayao was drunk, alleged the inmates.

The incident was captured by the police station’s security camera, they added.

Querubin said Cabayao was ordered to submit an explanation letter although the cop already verbally denied the inmates’ claim.

“The inmates have not filed a formal complaint but I learned about their allegation. We have to conduct an investigation,” said Querubin./PN
