ILOILO City ā How safe is meat produced in this city?
In coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the city governmentās Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) organized a āBasic Orientation Training on Meat Safetyā recently at the Diamond Jubilee Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A total of 150 meat vendors, dealers and processors participated, according to LEEO chief Ariel CastaƱeda.
The trainers were veterinarians from the Department of Agricultureās Bureau of Animal Industry, FDA and City Health Office.
āWeāll try to initiate more food safety-related programs. We want markets and slaughterhouses to be well informed of proper sanitation,ā said CastaƱeda.
The training was also in line with the Meat Safety Act which provides measures to promote safety of meat and animal products; establish and maintain essential national standards in abattoirs; regulate the importation and exportation of meat; and establish meat safety schemes.
āWe will continue to pursue this program to prevent possible food-borne illnesses,ā said CastaƱeda. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
