MANILA – There was nothing wrong with the pre-debut photo shoot that Rodrigo Duterte’s granddaughter Isabelle did inside Malacañang, according to Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.

Netizens should not make an issue out of the pictorial of the 17-year-old since it was not prohibited, Roque said in a statement.

Members of the Presidential family were allowed to have their photos taken inside Malacañang, just like ordinary people, but they were entitled to stay in the Palace as well, Roque said.

The daughter of Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte “had her photos taken around the Palace grounds, and I don’t think it should be an issue,” the presidential spokesman said.

Roque pointed out that President Duterte was “entitled to live in Malacañang, but he opted not to stay there.”

On Dec. 14 photos from Isabelle’s photo shoot, where she was seen wearing different gowns, went viral on social media.

They drew negative reactions from many netizens, with comments juxtaposing her life as the President’s privileged granddaughter and those of many poor Filipinos.

PARTY IN THE PALACE

Meanwhile, Roque said those who wish to invite President Duterte to Christmas parties are encouraged to hold their events in Malacañang instead.

Ayaw na lang lumalabas ni Presidente para sa mga social events,” said Roque. “So kung gusto mo makasama ang Presidente, pupunta ka dito, dala-dala mo caterer mo. Walang taxpayer’s money.”

Roque said this was the case with the recent baptism of Robin Padilla’s daughter and the birthday party of Rep. Lord Allan Velasco (Marinduque)./PN
