KALIBO, Aklan – Airport police questioned a 40-year-old Italian who said his luggage contained a bomb while at the predeparture area of the Kalibo International Airport.

Aviation Security (Avsec) officials consider filing charges against Christiano De Angeliz for violation of Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1727.

The foreigner asked to rebook his flight on Wednesday but felt disappointed when a booking attendant told him he had to pay a rebooking fee, the Avsec said in a police blotter.

The attendant, Christine Rose Teodosio, then asked Angeliz what was inside his baggage.

That was when Angeliz responded that there was a bomb in his bag, the Avsec said.

Teodosio then gave Angeliz his boarding pass. The foreigner was scheduled to board a plane bound for Manila.

It took a few minutes before Teodosio realized that she got a bomb joke, prompting her to call the airport police.

Avesec officials rushed to the departure area and invited Angeliz for questioning.

PD No. 1727 declares unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information of the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction.

Section 1 of the law states: “Any person who, by word of mouth or through the use of the mail, telephone, telegraph, printed materials and other instrument or means of communication, willfully makes any threat or maliciously conveys, communicates, transmits, imparts, passes on, or otherwise disseminates false information, knowing the same to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt being made to kill, injure, or intimidate any individual or unlawfully to damage or destroy any building, vehicle, or other real or personal property, by means of explosives, incendiary devices, and other destructive forces of similar nature or characteristics, shall upon conviction be punished with imprisonment of not more than five years, or a fine of not more than P40,000 or both at the discretion of the court having jurisdiction over the offense herein defined and penalized.”

“The offender shall be arrested by means of an Arrest, Search and Seizure Order (ASSO) and shall not be entitled to bail pending trial by the military tribunals or military courts which shall have exclusive jurisdiction over cases involving any violation of the provisions of this decree,” states Section 2. (PNA)
