ILOILO City – A farmer shot dead his binge drinking friend yesterday in Barangay Quipot, Janiuay, Iloilo then fled.

As of this writing, the whereabouts of suspect Wilbert Catalan remained unknown. His friend Ricky Dago, 38, died of gunshot wounds in the body and head.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. just outside the suspect’s house, according to Chief Inspector Jonal Galicha, Janiuay police chief.

Prior to the shooting, the two friends had a heated argument while binge drinking. Dago decided to leave.

“But Dago came back minutes later armed with a bolo. He attempted to hack Catalan,” said Galicha.

Catalan dodged the bolo and decided to stay in his house.

Several minutes later, Catalan went out of his house, confident that Dago had left. He was wrong.

Dago tried to hack him again, said Galicha.

This time, however, Catalan was prepared. He was armed with a 12-gauage shotgun. He shot Dago./PN
