ILOILO City – Officials of Barangay Monica Blumentritt, City Proper and 15 drug surrenderers took drug tests at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 office.
Barangay Captain Keith Espinosa, wife of suspected drug personality Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr., led her officials in undergoing the tests.
She said they wanted to “clean” their village’s image.
Espinosa’s house was raided in October last year and the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Group eventually charged her husband with illegal gun and drug possession.
Results of the drug tests were yet to be released as of this writing.
The barangay captain’s husband ranked No. 2 in the Iloilo City Police Office – Police Station 1’s list of suspected drug personalities in the City Proper.
He is currently in detention at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo serving a prison sentence for frustrated murder.
Recently, Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director, also named Barangay Captain Espinosa as among the barangay captains that the Iloilo City Police Office was investigating for alleged drug links.
According to PDEA-6, 40 barangay councils already subjected their officials to drug testing at the agency’s regional office.
The city has a total of 180 barangays./PN
