KALIBO, Aklan – The local government of Kalibo has activated its anti-smoking and anti-vaping task force.

The local government said it will impose penalties to those caught smoking or vaping in public places effective February.

Aside from apprehending violators, the task force will also put up streamers and tarpaulins along the major thoroughfares in the town to encourage locals to support the municipal government‘s vision of making Kalibo “smoke-free.”

Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz is urging revelers, especially visitors, to not smoke or vape during the ongoing Ati-Atihan Festival.

“The residents are so far supportive to our call of making a smoke-free Kalibo. We, however, need to inform the tourists,” said Dela Cruz.

Advertising of tobacco products in all festival events are banned, she added.

“This is for the health of all,” Dela Cruz stressed./PN
