KAYA Futbol Club could have a new home court in the 2018 Philippines Football League – it is currently in talks with the Iloilo provincial government for a possible partnership.

The club, represented by General Manager Paul Tolentino and Iloilo-based players Shirmar Felongco and Joven Bedic, made their proposal to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. on Jan. 10.

Defensor have shown interest in the proposal. He tasked Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, former Philippine Football Federation secretary-general Pablito Araneta and Atty. Dennis Ventilacion to study the possible partnership.

“This is it. The first step has been taken,” Araneta said. “We know Iloilo is considered one of the country’s football hotbeds, so this will be a welcome development.”

If the partnership pushes through, Kaya plans to use Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City as home court for PFL.

Kaya is one of the oldest active Philippine football clubs. Established in 1996, it became one of the founding members of the United Football League (UFL) in 2010.

The Santi Araneta-supported football squad has one UFL championship on its belt and one international tournament appearance, during the 2016 Asian Football Confederation Cup.

Last year, Kaya made University of Makati as its PFL home court. The club finished on third place in the elimination round but was booted out by eventual champion Ceres Negros FC in the semifinals./PN
