MANILA – The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons kept its Final Four hopes alive with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 win over the Adamson University Lady Falcons on Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.

Isa Molde led the way with 15 points, on eight attacks, six service aces and one block, for the Lady Maroons, which moved up to solo fifth place in the standings with a 6-5 win-loss record.

Katherine Bersola added 12 markers, while Diana Carlos and Marian Buitre combined 20 points for the Lady Maroons, which also got 24 excellent sets from Ilongga Arielle Estranero.

From a tight start, the Lady Maroons went on a huge run behind Kathy Bersola and Molde to build a 19-9 lead. The Lady Falcons tried to mount a rally but consecutive hits by Marian Buitre sealed the first set Lady Maroons win.

The Lady Maroons found themselves trailing early in the second frame but they quickly tied things up at 11-all before pulling to an 18-11 lead. The Lady Falcons rallied to within five but hits by Buitre handed the Lady Maroons the set.

The Lady Maroons went for the kill in the third as it opened a 12-8 lead on a Molde cross. The Lady Falcons came to within three points at 18-15, but the Lady Maroons pounced on the Lady Falcons errors down the stretch to claim a straight-set win.

“One game at a time lang kami,” said Lady Maroons assistant coach Raid Ricafort. “May tendency kasi ang mga players na isipin ‘yung ibang laro kaya ang dating nadi-distract sila sa gitna ng laro.”

Jessica Galanza finished with 10 points, on nine attacks and a block, while Joy Dacoron added nine markers for the Lady Falcons, which suffered its 11th straight defeat in as many outings./PN
