MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers survived a huge challenge from Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws before pulling off a 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 15-7 win in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball at San Juan Arena.

Kim Kianna Dyposted 18 points, including two blocks. Mary Joy Baron added 16 points while Ilongga Aduke Ogunsanya chipped in 11, including four blocks, for Lady Spikers (3-0).

Lady Spikers was at match point in the third set on Wednesday before Lady Tamaraws got their bearings going to extend the game and force a deciding fifth set after taking advantage of an erratic DLSU in the fourth frame.

The game was hanging in the balance in the fifth when Lady Spikers broke away from a 5-5 standoff as Lady Tamaraws gave away 4 points from errors. Desiree Cheng closed out the game with a kill from a toss by Michelle Cobb.

“It’s a good thing for us to be in this kind of game kasi at least nakikita mo kung ano’ng dapat ayusin sa team at ma-test iyong character,” said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus.

Negrense Bernadeth Pons finished with double-double 21 points and 22 digs while Celine Domingo had five blocks to finish with 12 points for Lady Tamaraws (1-2).

In the other match, Adamson University Lady Falcons exceeded its one-win output last year and moved up to third place with a 25-9, 27-25, 25-20 victory over University of the Philippines Lady Maroons./PN
