MANILA – Clients of state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines (Landbank) will not be able to access the bank’s services from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon, due to the bank’s shifting to the Europay, MasterCard, Visa (EMV) system.

Sa June 24 (Sabado), 10:30 p.m hanggang June 25 (Linggo), 3:00 p.m, magkakaroon ng pagka-antala ng serbisyo ang lahat ng Landbank ATMs, cash deposit machines, at iba pang electronic banking channels tulad ng iAccess, weAccess, at mobile banking application,” the bank said in an advisory posted on its Twitter account.

During this time, clients will not be able to use Landbank debit cards, including ATM and cash cards.

Dahil ito sa system upgrade at maintenance na gagawin ng Landbank alinsunod sa adoption ng EMV technology na ipinatupad ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP),” the bank said.

The BSP has ordered all Philippine banks to be EMV-compliant by June 30, or face the necessary sanctions.

“Unlike a magnetic stripe card, every time an EMV card is used for payment, the chip on the card generates a unique transaction code that cannot be used again. This feature, known as dynamic authentication, makes it difficult, if not virtually impossible, and costly for fraudsters to counterfeit EMV cards,” the BSP said in a separate primer. (GMA News)
