MANILA – Lyceum Pirates relied on Jesper Ayaay’s clutch hits to complete a come-from-behind 94-92 win over Arellano University Chiefs in the NCAA Season 93 men’s seniors basketball at the San Juan Arena.

Trailing 87-74 with over three minutes left in the game, the Pirates went on a huge 14-0 scoring run behind Ayaay and Mike Nzeusseu on Friday to snatch an 88-87 lead on a Jaymart Perez basket.

The Chiefs managed to snatch the lead at 91-88 but Ayaay scored five straight points to give the Pirates a 93-91 lead.

Rookie Jaycee Marcelino sealed the win afterwards with two free throws.
Ayaay finished with double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Pirates, which remained on solo first place in the standings with an unblemished 12-0 win-loss record.
Nzeusseu added double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds while Reymar Caduyac and Perez contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.

With the win, the Pirates moved closer to a twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinals.
“Arellano was the better team but again we just kept playing, we just grinded out with them,” said Pirates head coach Michael Robinson. “Credit goes to (Arellano) coach Gerry (Codinera) and Arellano.”
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers moved to solo third place in the standings with a 77-68 victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights on Thursday night.
Bernabe Teodoro and Ervin Grospe finished with 15 points apiece while Jed Mendoza and MJ Dela Virgen added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Bombers rediscovered their winning ways with their seventh victory in 11 games./PN
