MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo urged the Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), to dismiss the motion of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the decryption and printing of ballot images from precincts covered by his protest.

“The request is premature since the [Supreme Court] has yet to resolve my motion for reconsideration on the finding of sufficiency in form and substance of Marcos’ poll protest,” Robredo said in her comment to the PET.

It has yet to be determined if Marcos’ protest detailed the alleged acts or omissions tantamount to fraud, anomalies and irregularities, she said.

She noted that the ballot boxes and election paraphernalia that were subjects of the protest should already be brought in for the revision of votes.

“To allow protestant to decrypt and print all ballot images from the secure digital (SD) cards from the entire 36,445 protested clustered precincts will practically grant his prayer for the judicial recount and revision of ballots, which, as stated, is still an issue to be resolved,” said Robredo.

Granting Marcos’ motion will allow the losing vice presidential candidate to have a “fishing expedition” for evidence, Robredo said.

Marcos lost the 2016 vice presidential race to Robredo by 263,473 votes. He got 14,155,344 votes, while she garnered 14,418,817, based on the Commission on Elections’ final and official tally.

Marcos questioned the results in 39,221 clustered precincts in some 25 provinces and five cities, involving around 9 million votes./PN
